3950x Cooling

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

I'm using an NH-U12A on mine. It's fantastic.

Any reasonably chunky air cooler should be fine. IIRC @Den-Fi has a 3950X on water and one on air, he can give solid recommendations 👌

The two I've heard being used on this particular CPU are the NH-D15 and NH-U12A.

Really comes down to which is cheaper, as they both perform similar and the difference is marginal from what I understand. Never tried them personally as I have the same CPU, but I use an AIO.

Hey I am going to buy to 3950 but I don't want water cooling.

Can I just use a good air cooler? I am not going to overclock or anything.
If the air cooler is OK what cooler do I need to pick for the best cooling?

Cheers

I would recommend an AIO liquid cooler with anti-leak technology, leaks on AIOs in general are very rare, and the only main concern would be if your case supports the radiator (need at least 240mm radiator support for proper cooling, the 120mm ones are not that effective even when compared to decent air coolers).

I would recommend DeepCool's Neptwin air cooler which is compatible with the AM4 motherboard socket mounting system (used by the Ryzen 3950X):        https://www.newegg.com/deepcool-neptwin-rgb/p/N82E16835856119?Item=N82E16835856119&nm_mc=AFC-RAN-COM&cm_mmc=AFC-RAN-COM&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afcPCPartPicker&AFFID=2558510&AFFNAME=PCPartPicker&ACRID=1&ASID=https%3a%2f%2fpcpartpicker.com%2fproduct%2fVmMwrH%2fdeepcoolneptwinrgb565cfmcpucoolerneptwinrgb&ranMID=44583&ranEAID=2558510&ranSiteID=8BacdVP0GFsKMSuydy3GLWPOTdxPmTmlg

After seeing a few builds and results with different coolers, it seems like the overall trend is it doesnt run quite as hot as everyone initially thought it would.  I would imagine the mid to high range noctuas and bequiets could handle it (well the high range def can, the mid range should)
