RAM bottleneck?

I have a 2x4gb kit off Vulcan DDR4 3000mhz memory. However I am not able to run it at anything over 2400mhz with my R5 2600 and gigabyte b450m ds3h. I don't know if this is a limitation of the cheap motherboard, just a poor quality cpu, or if it's faulty memory. I was able to get a single stick running at 2933mhz. 

Anyway, i've recently started playing some more demanding games and it's become apparent that I need more than 8gigs. I was wondering whether

(a) I should buy another 2x4gig kit for about £40 and settle for the low speed, or

(b) Buy a better 2x8gb kit like the Corsair vengeance 3200mhz for £70 and hope it runs faster?

 

Is the extra cost worth it?

how have you been trying to get it at over 2400? enabling xmp? manually adjusting frequency and timings? have you been adjusting voltages as well? do you have the ram in slots 2 and 4?

and do you have the latest bios 

you could have probably just lost the silicon lottery and got a bad memory controller but lets not rely on that

Initially I just enabled XMP, but it caused my system to continuously power on and off. Ive tried adjusting the voltage manually and the frequency, even trying 2666mhz. I'm no expert in memory overclocking so I haven't gone any further and it's reached a point we're I don't really want to. Both dimms are in the correct slots

I believe I have the latest bios. I did think perhaps I had just got very unlucky with my cpu. If that were the case I'm guessing buying the Corsair kit would probably make no difference?

If your talking about the Corsair vengeance then no 

They are as basic as a ram can get (but that's not a bad thing )
