Hey all! I actually have many questions etc. I am relatively good with computers and have had several builds. I built this system about 4 years ago? Just after the release of the 7700k was released. I've always bought unlocked cpus as after a couple years I tend to oc them as high as possible before throwing the towel in and beginning the new system build. Now unfortunately I think I have a bad chip :( I simply can not get 5ghz and I'm stuck at 4.9ghz @1.375v which I feel is too high for that clock anyway, max load temps are around 65-71*C in prime 95 which is fine (I did delid the cpu). The question I have is there something I am missing? I can provide screen shots etc.

Also if I can't get this thing to OC more should I upgrade? I'm currently sitting with 7700k, msi Z270 carbon pro, 32gb gskill ram 3200 ddr4(which I can use for the next build). Corsair h115i v2 and a zotac 1070 amp (I've been wanting to upgrade to the rtx 2080 as there are some super good deals where I live atm, the one store is selling them for less then a rtx 2070 super and from my understanding the rtx 2080 is a better card).

Could my cpu be limited by my mobo? Will it bottleneck a 2080.

I play games @1440p and I'm not happy with the 1070s performance.

Thanks in advance!

I think upgrading your GPU is more important then upgrading your CPU here. If you wanted to upgrade the GPU, you should wait since both AMD and Nvidia is going to release their next generation hardware in the next couple of months.

Main Rig :

Ryzen 7 2700X | Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8 GB | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 | 16 GB TeamGroup Elite 2400MHz | Samsung 750 EVO 240 GB | HGST 7200 RPM 1 TB | Seasonic M12II EVO | CoolerMaster Q300L | Dell U2518D | Dell P2217H |

Laptop :

Thinkpad X230 | i5 3320M | 8 GB DDR3 | V-Gen 128 GB SSD |

Yeah I heard about that. I'll probably wait it out. I really want to hit 100+fps on 1440p in AAA titles as I have a gsync 144hz monitor. I've heard good things about amd but I'm kinda locked into Nvidia because I have gsync? Or is there a way around that?

No I haven't done that, don't really understand that as I haven't had to do that with my previous chips. Could you explain if possible?

Simple version: it attempts to correct for the voltage drop as a chip goes under load. You need it on. With that setting enabled set your BCLK to 102.5.

Okay I'll give that a try and get back to you! Thanks alot!

Okay so I tried that. With all the modes and voltages ranging from 1.35-1.45 and just can't hit 5ghz :( I'm running a torture test at 4.9ghz now and seems to be running fine, 100% utilization @70*C at 1.38v
