Changing laptop Thermal paste

Go to solution Solved by Falkentyne,

Carbonaut tends to be one use, meaning if somehow you mess up, even though it's advertised as being multi-use, many users have seen the pad simply rip up.

Better would be the Panasonic Soft PGS+ pads, or the rebranded version of them by Innovation Cooling.

I've used them and they are about MX-4 level in performance, and you never have to replace them.

Now my GT73VR is pasted with LM on both CPU and GPU and has remained stable long term, but I had to do a lot of work to make it happen.

Hi

I was thinking about changing my stock thermal paste with conductonaut when I saw Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut Thermal Pad .They say that it has the thermal conductivity of 62,5 W/mk. Any suggestion on its performance would be great(like a comparison ).If the two have a really small temperature difference I would go with carbonaut.

I've had terrible luck with liquid metal as well. I'd highly suggest just a more efficient conventional thermal paste like arctic silver or kryonaut.

Don't liquid metal unless you're like 1000% sure it's going to get you the performance you want. I've honestly had much more luck with an aftermarket cooling pad combined with a side cooler from opolar.

Yes, I know that at a certain point my laptop is going to look ridiculous but I frequently work and game on it while taking it to and from work so if 5 minutes of hooking up cooling to put it in "desktop mode" is what I have to do then that's what I have to do.

I do wish that liquid cooling would hurry up and come to laptops though. I know ASUS made one but the price was so stupidly prohibitive it might as well have been a concept car.

Ok thank you for the useful information .So, anyone know anything about the thermal grizzly carbonaut pad? They say it has the heat transfer of 62.5 W/mk. should i use it?as i think this number is second only to the conductonaut  and easier to use than.

I think you should give it a serious thought certainly because even I replaced my thermal paste on the heatsink and I don’t see any change in terms of the performance or upgrade with the intention of which I did replace it in the first place.

I am pretty sure that Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut is one of the best thermal pastes made of carbon and many users have made the replacement, but I find very few come back to vouch for it. So, I still think it is better to stick with the stock and stop thinking about replacing it. It is my honest opinion!
