It didn't go quite as right as I had hoped

So got a new 5700xt and was sure it'd kick some frame ass.

 

But well, it hasn't really.

 

Just ran the AC: Odyssey benchmark since that's what I'm currently playing and well I'm not exactly thrilled.

 

Also the benchmark wasn't very smooth in fact quite choppy and stuttery.

What did you replace?  Did you correctly uninstall all previous GPU drivers on the system before installing the 5700XT?

1050ti, I didn't actually run the benchmark on it and have no idea what settings it was running on. I think they were changed when I loaded it back up, because they were all set to high and in game I was getting around 40fps with the 1050ti.

 

I booted to safe mode, used DDU and had it shut down when finished. Then changed the gpu booted back in and installed the lastest amd drivers.

Download HWMonitor, open, run benchmark again, what is your CPU usage looking like?  GPU?  Min max values please

I don't think the min values worked, because they are all 0 max are 86,85,85,89,89,87,79,89,87,89,81,82,90. I couldn't watch it in real time because alt tab out pauses the benchmark and if I switched to windowed mode that'd change the results right?

Min 0 is fine. That means at some point those cores were just idle.  

 

What I see is a massive CPU bottleneck on that GPU.  For that specific game which iirc isn't optimized well to begin with.  What do you get with Firestrike benchmark (free to download on Steam)

to be honest i was gonna start my own post about this game but i thought it would be a waste of time, in the benchmark i see about 50 something % cpu usage and almost 100% GPU on my

ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080!!!!

Poorly optimized game for using hardware correctly if I recall correctly.  Game is just tough to run.  

 

Once you get Firestrike going you can compare similar PCs

Hmm in game i get around 60 with dips to the low 40's in populated areas with a mix of ultra high and medium settings, which is sully tbh

you would think wouldnt you considering in prettu much every other game its fine including Origins, but nope with this game its just so un-heavily optimised its almost criminal~

Depends on the game - Optimization is key.  Im playing Everquest 2 atm, some 20 year old game....On max settings I get 30 FPS in cities with large spikes - its a shit engine, shit coding, and nothing top end today can run that game well due to that.  My buddy with a 9900k + 2080ti Kingpin cant even raid without reducing settings down to medium or less. and keep acceptable FPS.
