PC freezes randomly

Hello community!

I recently got a new case, motherboard, cpu cooler and SSD.

I put everything together and noticed something: The PC freezes randomly (usually after 1-2h of use).

I already opened Core Temp and Task Manager to see if a part is dying, but no. Everything is running normally.

 

I suspect it has something to do either with the SSD (still old Windows 7 partition on it, also I hear Windows 7 sounds although I'm on windows 10) or the motherboard (never had any problems with the old one).

 

Please tell me if you have an idea for a fix.

 

Specs:

 

CPU: i5-4570 @ 3.2 Ghz

CPU Cooler: LC-Power LC-CC-120-RGB

Motherboard (new): asus H81-M2

Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX 560 4G

RAM: Unbranded DDR3 16GB @ 1666 Mhz

PSU: bequiet! Semi-Modular 530W Pure Power

Case: NZXT Phantom 410

SSD: SanDisk SSD Plus 120GB

HDD: SeaGate Barracuda 1TB

I should add that I tried the following things:

 

Boot from HDD

Reset BIOS

CMOS-Battery removal and installation after a few mintues

 

No success

What sounds are you hearing from Windows 7 any errors pointing out in windows event viewer?

I hear sounds like:

Startup sound

when you double-click a folder in the file explorer

Shutdown sound

Error sounds

 

I'm currently trying removing that partition.

My best guess is try go into sounds in Windows 10 and change those sounds and format that drive and reinstall Windows 10 to be sure

I would reinstall windows on the SSD, and wipe the HDD. You could try to fix the install you have now, but it sounds like the root of your problems are from the old windows install, and what's probably happening is that the operating system is trying to run background tasks, but instead pulls up old files from windows 7 because windows likes to reuse file paths.

In the Sounds settings, they are all the new Windows 10 Sounds, but I'm hearing Windows 7 sounds. I'll try to delete the Windows 7 partition for now and see if that fixes anything.

You can have a try but that may mess with the current install maybe since it seems to be background tasks from win 7 in the 10

I think that was the problem!

I had set it to "High Performance" in the BIOS, but not in Windows!

I'll update you in a few hours and see if that was the problem!

Update: Nope. Still freezing randomly.
