Hi guys,

I built a computer some time ago but due to work, buying my first house etc it got rarely used and in the end got packed away in the move, the system has the following:

i5 4690k Overclocked to 4.6ghz

msi z97m motherboard

did have 8gb ram but the system it has a faulty stick so it’s down to 6gb

zotac gtx 970

2 Samsung 128gb ssd’s in raid 0

1 Tb seagate hdd

550watt Corsair full modular power supply.

Now I’m not sure what to do, whether to upgrade the ram to 16gb and get a 2nd hand         gtx 1070 or 1660 super and replace the hdd with a 1tb ssd equivalent.

The pc will be hooked up to my 1080p tv in the front room and I have no plans yet to upgrade my tv to 4K i will be mainly playing games on it when I have the time.

Or should I buy a whole new system?
Cheers!!!!!!!

disclaimer: Im not expert at this

BUT my suggestion straight away would be to go to 2 sticks of either 4 GB DDR4 ram or 8GB DDR4 Sticks. There are definitely some parts that can be kept even if you want to rebuild as well, such as the storages and potentionally the power supply.

Ryzen 5 3600

MSI B550 Tomahawk

16GB 3600mHz Trident Z RGB

1650 Super

Fractal Design Meshify C

Samsung 970 Evo 1TB

That system only support DDR3. So your disclaimer was right indeed. 😂

+1 for replacing the RAM. CPU should technically last you a bit longer still, but if you can get a used i7 that's compatible with your motherboard for cheap, go for it.

The PSU is enough for a new GPU like the 1660 super if you want to upgrade that for gaming as well.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Bazzite
