I feel like my PC is underperforming...

JakeMW

Currently while playing games, I am getting around 120 fps (mainly looking at Valorant right now) which can fluctuate depending on how chaotic the game is at the moment. I want to get an average fps closer to 200 so that I can use a 144 Hz monitor without worries. Also, according to Task Manager, my CPU is always running at 100% usage while I play games and that concerns me a lot as well.

This is my current Build:

CPU: i5-7600k @3.8GHz

Memory: 32 Gb RAM

GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1080

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z270P-D3

I am wondering if my build is bottle necked in some way or something similar is happening and how I can improve my build. If you have any tips, they would be greatly appreciated!

Either look for a cheap 6700K/7700K, or get a B450 board and a Ryzen 3600.

4C/4T i5s have really fallen behind in gaming in the past couple of years, as games start leveraging more and more cores.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC
