I'm going to be starting university to study computer science in a few months and thought now would be a good time to get a computer. It would need to be able to handle all the work i'm doing as well as gaming on the side. I'm from Northern Ireland (UK) and I don't really have a budget in mind but I would like something that has good price to performance. Only thing I don't need is a case ( using Fractal Design Meshify C ) but I do need the peripherals as well - monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Any help in putting together a list of parts would be much appreciated.

I just went for a maxed out 1080p build since you didn't specify. I didn't include mouse/keyboard since those are so subjective. If you go mechanical, make sure you get quiet switches if you're going to have roomates/dampers (One of my roommates had blue switches in college and I wanted to kill him every time he typed).

Edit* Woops, didn't see you already had the case...

Chances are pretty unlikely you'll be going to school in a few months, but I'd say wait until AMD releases their new products and decide what to get then.

I'd probably get some form of B550 board, maybe a Ryzen 4600, 1TB nvme drive, etc. Other parts would depend on pricing at the time, so pointless to dive too deep now.

If you do want to build now, you need to include some kind of budget.

Yeah know, have you considered that we're just suggesting some lists? Also, I converted prices.

Price conversions aren't exact as you haven't factored in taxes and duty. You also didn't convert anything.

The lists are useless because pricing varies from country to country, so some better parts might work out to be cheaper.

There might also be some that simply aren't available in the UK.

I know that, but like I said earlier we are just making suggestions.

Then why not use his country as a base so that the suggestions are actually useful?

I didn’t realize they didn’t have 5700xts and 3600s in the UK. What a strange land it must be 😅. He didn’t give a budget so I didn’t adjust the prices. A high end 1080p build is going to be pretty much the same everywhere.
