Perfect PSU Picking

Hello All,

I am looking to make an archive of parts over quarantine to purchase (Not all at once) so I can slowly upgrade my Rig.

I have already addressed the GPU and decided to go for a RTX 2070 Super, The Case - A NZXT 710 and now we move onto PSU. (Next Week, RAM!)

I am looking for something which will meet the following criteria:

Must be:

- Able to Capably power the PC with some headroom for future upgrades (RAM Mainly but maybe a second GPU, who knows)

- Under £100

- Fully Modular

- A Tier or above on the PSU Tier List:

Would be Nice:

- Reputable Manufacturer

- Sold By Amazon cause who doesn't love Prime!

I have had a look through the list so I do have some rough ideas for what I would like to get but I always like to ask opinions from those who have more knowledge on the matter. (Aka, I am known for messing it up and buying the wrong stuff)

Below is what the build is so far including the new upgrades mentioned above. (Please Note the RAM and PSU are still the Current Builds Spec, and will be updated as I make my decisions)

Any thoughts would be appreciated as always!

Thanks!

Millsy

PS: Do Sleeved Cables Plug Directly into the PSU or into the extensions???

🤔

The Leadex III 650W is £90 on Curry's, but £110 on Amazon. For £90, it's a great deal, and it apparently has free shipping. You could have problems finding custom cables for it, though (it might actually use the same pinout as EVGA's Super Flower PSUs, but I'm not sure). Super Flower is the manufacturer.

If you really want to get it from Amazon, the Ion+ 560W is £102 on Amazon. But again, could have problems finding custom cables for it. Manufacturer is High Power.

The RM550x is £88, and should be super easy to find custom cables for. It uses daisy chained PCIe connectors, so if you plan on getting a GPU with a TDP >225W, consider getting a different PSU. The 650W version is £97. Manufacturer is CWT.

You can get cables to replace the ones on the PSU, or extensions. Replacement cables plug straight into the PSU (they are not standardised, and you need to make sure that the ones you get works on your specific PSU model). Extensions plug into the ends of the cables that come with the PSU. Replacement cables are recommended, especially if you get a fully modular PSU.

I feel like the RM650x Covers all of my needs so thank you very much for showing me PC world has them, I had no Idea!

@seon123 is there anywhere that does sleeved cables for this that you can recommend? Preferably para-cord and relatively inexpensive? Metal combs would be nice too but obviously I expect to pay a premium if everything is to be met.

First build all the parts you currently have, and Build 2.0 the parts you will transfer over + all the parts that you are planning to get, but haven't yet ordered?

Effectively yeah, so the first build is my well... my first build.

Build 2.0 is a mix of parts installed and parts to be installed. ie: The CPU, Mobo and AIO have been installed already along with the additional case fans and the SSD.
The RTX 2070 Super is yet to be installed, As Ideally despite my original post I don't want to spend more than £500 knowing they sold it for £480 before and it has been relisted for £500 on PC World so I am waiting for that to restock. I thought it best to include it as otherwise it wouldn't have an accurate watt read out.

The case is soon to be ordered once the GPU has been along with the PSU and cables. (Then we ask about RAM)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @CableMod has an EU store, but if you look around, there could be other places to get custom cables for less.

@seon123 thank you for the recommendation! @Millsy_ we do have paracord and nylon sleeving options, as well as aluminum combs (anodized aluminum combs too!) if you would like to check those out. Email us at Support@CableMod.com if you need any assistance! :)
