4th gen. for every gen intel makes no chipset and you have to buy a new mobo everytime you upgrade. that is pretty greedy.

if i was you i would get i7 3790k or if you want much better cpu then

ryzen 5 1600 af

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using a dell Optiplex 7010 Motherboard ( 0GXM1W ), and I've got an Intel Core i5 3570 on a LGA1155.

So I was looking to upgrade it to an i7, but the problem is that, as much as I know (please check it), my motherboard supports only up to 3rd gen CPUs.

Now I was searching and found out on wikipedia, I don't trust it though, that the i7 4820K, 4930K and 4960X are 3rd gen? (Ivy Bridge - E, still 22nm)

Now could I fit that one into my motherboard, will it work or should I stick to buying the i7 3770?

Thank you in advance!

Those are based on 3rd gen chips architecturally, but they are on a totally different socket, LGA 2011, not the one in your computer, LGA 1155. The 3770 and 3770k are the only options for an i7 upgrade on your socket.

forgot about the normal 3770

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
