alright then how do the generations work with AMD?

for example, ryzen 5 1400 = 1st gen, ryzen 5 2600 = 2nd gen, ryzen 5 3600 = 3rd gen

same with ryzen 3, 7 and 9

Hello everybody after my topic from last night, you guys have convinced me to switch to AMD might go with a Ryzen 2600 or 3600 one of those two. But at the moment I am a bit confused to how generations work with AMD CPUs. I understand how it works with intel but not AMD. That is why I need your help to select a motherboard. I was think the Aorus b450 Aorus pro or an Gigabyte b450 s2h and more suggestions thanks for the help.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

GPU: Gigabyte gtx 1660 Super oc 6g
Mobo:MSI b450 tomahawk max

So, the first number after  Ryzen x (x= either 3, 5, 7 9 (9 is only for 3rd gen), in a nutshell meaning the higher the first number, the better the cpu) , will be either a 1, 2 or a 3.

1= first gen, or AMD ZEN

2= second gen, or AMD ZEN+

3=Third gen,  or AMD ZEN 2

Examples:

- AMD Ryzen 5 1400: AMD is the brand name (Advanced Micro devices) 5= cpu 'level,' its the midrange, becuase the isn't a ryzen 9 in this generation, its in between 3 and 7, and so this is the 'midlevel' cpu. 1= the generation, which is the first, which is also called AMD Zen

- AMD Ryzen 7 2700x: Again, AMD is the brand name, 7= cpu 'level', and since there isn't a AMD ryzen 9 yet, this it the top-end chip for this generation, which Is the second generation, or Zen+

- AMD Ryzen 3 3100x- AMD third gen is complicated. Not only does it come with ryzen 9's, it comes with multiple styles of ryzen 3's, 5's, 7's and 9's, being the R (Ryzen)3 - 3100x, 3200g, 3300x, R5- 3600, 3600x, R7- 3700x, 3800x, R9- 3900x, 3950x. Same thing that i said before applies, The 3 in Ryzen 3 is the lowest-teir, 5 is mid-range, 7 is higher-end, 9 is pro level/highest end. This is Generation 3, Zen 2.

Look again at what i posted, I updated it, but At the moment, any AMD chip offers better to much better value than Intel's chips, with a host of benefits (better CPU cooler, overclocking capibilites for every chip, ect)

AMD is no-brainer at this point. People with very high budget for gaming only buys intel cpu's these days.

go for msi b450 tomahawk max and ryzen 5 3600
