I am preparing to build a home server.

My main requirements are as follows:

Linux-Used to develop web applications and test environments

NAS-Home media storage and file storage.I might use Plex.
Windows10-For my family through with virtualization.

Is virtualization the current consideration? NAS,MicroServer or HTPC whatever,It just needs to meet those requirements.

I might consider building a new PC ,or using a virtualization system with that PC in the future. So it will probably use an amd zen+ or zen2 with 50TB of storage and 16GB of ECC memory.

Regarding the decoding of 4k video, is it necessary to add additional GPU for hardware decoding?

What I needed to know most was how I would choose the software to build such a PC.
(Linux + openmediavault + docker+KVM,esxi, freenas, unraid or any can be used)

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Depends on the cpu, its not needed, but is nice if you want do lots of strems. I can decode 4k videos on my dual 1366 system all on cpu.

Id probably go proxmox, let that manage the vms and conainters. ZFS for storage.
