I was wondering is there any benefit in keeping the same ram density's as in if you have 2 channels, having

channel 1 being 2*2GB and channel 2 being 2*2 GB

or is there no difference in say you have

channel 1 being a 2GB and a 4GB and channel 2 being a 2GB and a 4GB

assuming the same cas timings...

There is no difference. Is important to have the same amount of memory in both channels, otherwise the dual channel applies to the lowest amount of each (i.e: if you have 2GB+2GB in channel A and 4GB+4GB in channel B the memory will use 8GB in dual channel and 4GB in single channel). That is why is better to balance the amount of memory between channels.
