Hey Guys!

I am new to building a rig myself. The one I am using at the moment is from late 2009 with a few upgrades.

AMD FX-8350 8 core cpu

ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 Mainboard

16 gb ddr3 ram

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 960 G1 Gaming with 4 gb

430 watt psu (which is maybe my biggest problem)

You see, I am trying to play games like Plague Tale: Innonence atm, but I run into a problem my CPU and GPU just dip in performace (screenshot attached). It also happens while playing GTA V or most of the times in Valorant or CSGO. I have no Problems running League of Legends, but I don't want to play only such a toxic game and need a change of pace. I can't really get behind the problems of the dips in performance, since I don't think its thermal throttling, because hwinfo's readings don't suggest  it at all. A friend of mine suggested that maybe my PSU is just not enough to handle the power I need, so I could simply just upgrade it and be done with it.

Yeah, no I am aiming for a great experience while gaming, I won't achieve 144hz on that rig and neither will I ever be able to play any kind of VR games. VR is basically an obession of mine, I love it so much, so now finally, the straw where I literally can't seem to be able to play anything other than League is drawn, I am going to build a new rig. I have been watching A TON of videos of Linus and Co. and think I am able to do it, have done it with the friend, but I lack in knowledge and hence I am here to ask for your help.

I am from Germany, therefor my currency would be €.

I am kind of open on what to buy, aiming for ~1000-1100€ PC

The Case that I have already gotton: https://www.caseking.de/zalman-z7-neo-midi-tower-schwarz-geza-071.html (4rgb fans,with an rgb controller, 1 x usb 3, 2 x usb 2 and audio inputs)

going for a Ryzen 7 3800x (but opting for a Ryzen 9 3900x if my connections will allow me that tight upgrade)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 DDR4 16 gb

GPU: RTX 2060 (maybe 2060 Super with that connection as well)

probably a 550 or 600 Watt PSU from bequite or seasonic (not sure though)

My most concerns lie with the Motherboard. I am not really sure what I really need to achieve the optimal performance I am going for. I was initially going to go for a x570 plus motherboard from msi or sorts, but I don't know if that really is necessary.

I hope ya'll be kind that newbie and hopefully can help me resolve maybe the motherboard thing and if all goes well, the first problem as well, since this system will maybe go to a friend of mine, whose computer just plain up died on him.

kind regards

Yunarito aka Stu ~

Are you just gaming? If so you don't need a 3800x, and definitely don't need a 3900x. A 3600/x, or 3700x at the very most should be what you're aiming for.

Also, your build is massively unbalanced if you're just gaming.

dang I forgot to add, In the future I would be using a main 1440p 144hz monitor and a secondary full hd 60hz monitor

Do a 3600+2080S. Games are a lot more dependent on GPU these days, and a 3900x+2060/S doesn't even stand a chance on most games 1440p 144fps high/ultra settings. Guess what? a 3600+2080S Can do it.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

Gaming is what I would probably be doing most of the time, but also Video and Photo Editing, Coding and such.

Edit: Streaming would be among those as well, though I am not sure how much of an impact the better cpu would make.

Do you also think that the 3600 would last a couple of years? I am not looking to upgrade again soon, that's why I am going for those other cpus, besides other reasons as listed above in another reply

Professionally? If not you'll still be more than fine with a 3700x or even a 3600/x. It's not like they're incapable, it just takes a little longer.

Casually at first, but no one knows what the future would hold, but thanks for the recommendation, I'll give it a thought!

Yeah, I think it's better to buy the R5 for now since AMD will be releasing some new stuff later this year. You can just upgrade the CPU 6 months or a year from now with those should you need more power.

Main Rig :

Ryzen 7 2700X | Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8 GB | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 | 16 GB TeamGroup Elite 2400MHz | Samsung 750 EVO 240 GB | HGST 7200 RPM 1 TB | Seasonic M12II EVO | CoolerMaster Q300L | Dell U2518D | Dell P2217H |

Laptop :

Thinkpad X230 | i5 3320M | 8 GB DDR3 | V-Gen 128 GB SSD |

Build for the present not what may or may not happen in the future. No point in making the build unbalanced for the sake of something that doesn't exist.
