Ok so I have an older Mobo I am putting in a new case for someone they want RGB but the board lacks any onboard headers for such... I'm not really an RGB guy so I never looked for a controller that wasn't built into the board.. Is there any decent one that can plug into an internal USB 2.0 header to allow software RGB control for a generic case and fans?

Corsair lighting node, note most rgb is proprietary so then need corsair fans as well.

There are bundles with 2 or 3 fans like ll120 hta tome come with a node.

Theres also strips with lighting node pro, which can be expanded with rgb hub for up to 6 fans or a additionak set of strips (it has 2 channels).

If wanting to spend a lot and go overboard the commander pro together with daisy chained lighting node pro and their rgb fan hub can do a ton, maybe even more than can fit in a average midtower lol.

Can recommend rhe corsair stuff (am very happy with it) but theres probably other brand alternatives as well.

But the case they got It self has RGB built in so I need something that can use what looks like a 3 pin connector.. Same as the 1st pic on this persons post sadly this thread was never resolved

Ah ok.

Maybe look here:

the accepted answer links to 1 cable, but in related products you can see more types.

Still needs a lighting node for the usb though.

Perhaps ask that user directly if it worked out or if the lightshow just gave a brief spark and smoke "once".
