Will my rig be sufficient?

I'm currently upgrading my desktop from a 775 core 2 duo rig. I've found a decent deal on a used Gigabyte Windforce 7870 and am thinking of getting it before a new motherboard, 6300, etc. to mine for a few months and eventually use it in the rig when I have everything else. 

 

I know that mining is GPU based on cgminer or whatever but will the 7870 be at all throttled by a core 2 duo? Does the CPU matter at all? Yes, I'm pretty nooby at mining but I know the basic and just want a straightforward answer to a simple question.

 

In short: Will a core 2 duo at all throttle an OCed 7870 while GPU mining?

Nope CPU doesn't really matter. You're good.

For mining? Most likely not. The 7870 will happily stroll along. As long as you have enough juice going to the card, you should be sweet.
