TLDR at bottom.

Looking at upgrading my GPU for a while now and I can't figure out what kind of performance point my CPU would start bottlenecking at. I'm currently running the MSI GTX 970 Gaming and have just felt it to be a bit lack luster on some more recent titles, as well as running out of VRAM in the middle of a game and all my settings being dropped to medium. All gaming is done at 1080p or lower but looking to upgrade to 1440p soonish.

Current build is:

I7 6700

MSI GTX 970

16GB DDR4 2666

Mobo is a generic cheap board that I'm gonna make another topic on right forum about a replacement since I can't remember the model and I believe something on it got burned up a few years back when my system shorted out.

TLDR: Upgrading GPU from GTX 970 what can I go upto and reasonably not be bottlenecked by my I7 6700, and recommended upgrades on a budget.

The sky is the limit. A CPU like that can benefit with an update, but the higher you go the more performance you'll get. CPU bottlenecking is quite hard today.

At me or quote me, I want to hear your opinion.

Hopefully anything I say is factually correct. Sorry for any mistakes in advanced.

I was trying to look at sub $350 since I'm going to be replacing my motherboard at the same time and don't want to cheap out on it and honestly ray tracing is not on my list of priorities.
