Sound Card, Worth It?

Wysoseriouss

Hey so I'm currently running a fairly old but still really good set of Creative 5.1 Speakers for when I'm not using my headphones (Corsair Vengeance 1500) which are USB, but I tend to use my speakers more so I have considered getting a sound card. With having had no experience at all in sound cards, I'm wondering whether a $50 - $75 or so sound card will really make the difference over the onboard audio provided by my Gigabyte Z77X-D3H mobo or should I save up some more and spring for a really good one.

Either way any reccomendations for good sound cards in either price bracket?

My speakers are really good, it's just that they are a few years old, I made that point in saying that I wouldn't mind giving them a bit of a boost with a soundcard, but I don't really want to replace them just yet as there is really nothing wrong with them

Try getting lossless audio, it will be a good boost, then think about getting a sound card, sth like a Xonar DG that is cheap and really good.

you dont need a sound card

Im guessing you havent tried a dedicated sound card, or you either do not aprecciate good audio quality, because there is a BIG difference between on board and dedicated. Linus himself has promoted this a lot of times, saying how good dedicated audio is better than onboard.
