Howdy people,

So, ever since Days of Our Lives has been taken off TV, my mum has been nagging me to help her stream tv shows and movies from my home server to the main TV, so I'm in need of a media player. It needs to be easy to use, have wifi, support all kinds of formats, usb playback would be nice, under $130AUD preferably.
I've been looking at the WD TV Live and the Pivos Xios DS, has any one had experience with these or have any suggestions for other media players I should take a look at?

Cheers for any help.

Every loud bang is a lesson learned.

Hey.

I've got the WDTV Live, which I use to stream films on my computer (upstairs), down to my TV (downstairs). The WiFi in my house is the best, so WiFi playback just wasn't an option. But it might work better for others with better WiFi. For me it was just shit and outright unusable. I use powerline and it works just fine.

It can read external hard drives just fine and playback is butter smooth through USB. Most of my films are in MKV or MP4 format and it works fine with them. I did read reviews saying that the firmware updates did fuck up a few features, so I didn't update mine.

Corsair 400R, i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz 16GB, Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Motherboard, 240GB Samsung 840 Evo Sata III SSD, 2 x Asus GTX 780 Direct CU2 SLI, Corsair H100i and Corsair AX860i Platinum Power supply.

Anything is better than Days of Our Lives...

You could get an Android TV box. They're around £50 here in the UK

Yeah I looked into an Android Mini PC a little bit, but I have no idea how well it would work, or how easy it would be to use, for my parents to use it would have to have a remote and a sequence of buttons to press, otherwise they would get so lost.

Wow thanks for the quick review, pretty much tells me all I need to know without having to search too hard. I've got a WD My Net N750 router, so it should? be all right, fingers crossed. May as well pick one up and give it a go.
