CPU Usage 100% GPU Usage 20% PUBG

Hello, could anyone help me with high cpu usage when playing PUBG? I was on hiatus for couple of months since the last time i played (January) and it was smooth before. But now, whenever i join into the it stays at 94-100%

Meanwhile, my GPU usage is only 20-50%

High CPU usage makes my game stutter and getting fps drop everywhere on the map. Sometimes it stays at 100+fps then randomly drop to 40-60fps, same problem when i engaging an enemy and when i peacefully looting

My specs are :

CPU i5-4460

CPU Cooler : Noctua NH U12s

GPU : Zotac GTX 1070

Motherboard : MSI B85 G43 Gaming

RAM : Team Dark 4x4GB DDR3 1600

PSU : Corsair CX600M

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

It's only when I'm playing PUBG that i got 100% CPU usage, when I'm playing other games that demands higher i never use that high e.g Monster Hunter World, Assassin Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 5, and some other demanding games.

CPU, Motherboard, RAM and PSU are quite old, it has been 7 years but i maintain it and the temperature are normal when i'm playing games (CPU below 55, GPU below 60)

I know the problem was CPU, but if there's someone who could fix this problem without needing to upgrade CPU (now) I'm grateful. I don't want to go to the last resort to upgrade my CPU right now because it worked smoothly before (in January) so maybe anyone could help me with this problem.

Some solutions i have tried :

- Clean windows install

- There's a guide called 'pubg performance bible' and i was using it before the hiatus and now I'm using it again

There's no background apps beside MSI Afterburner, Rivaturner, Lightshot, Steam and Discord

I have disabled Discord Hardware Acceleration and Overlay, steam too

Have you tried capping the game to 60 fps? Are you running a high refresh rate monitor? There also may be settings in-game that can be reduced to relieve the bottleneck.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Fedora 38 x86_64

Secondary: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Fedora 38 x86_64

Server: AMD Athlon PRO 3125GE, 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 ECC, TrueNAS Core 13.0-U5.1

Home Laptop: Intel Core i5-L16G7, 8 GB 4267 MHz LPDDR4x, Windows 11 Home 22H2 x86_64

Work Laptop: Intel Core i7-10510U, NVIDIA Quadro P520, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x86_64

Yes i'm using high refresh rate monitor and i capped it to 120Hz

Yes i have tried to cap the game too but it still drop to even lower than 40

I'm using very low in game settings, 100 screen scale, 103 FoV, fullscreen 1920x1080

Is this a consistent problem? What's the background CPU utilization out of game, if so?

Also, have you measured temps in gameplay?

Yes it's like this whenever i join in any maps, no matter when I'm capping it or not. The background utilization gets to 78+ in any maps.

Yes, I'm monitoring it using MSI Afterburner and Rivaturner but all of them are normal

Idle CPU 37, GPU 35

Playing any games both of them below 60

Out of game, so that it's known if the CPU is already overwhelmed before launching

If High CPU(100%) usage is causing stuttering /Lag
Even though you have high end PC; try this Fix. Worked for me 9th i7 2060ti
