My PSU suddenly starts to make noises and the fan sounds really loud sometimes. It has just started doing this so I was wondering if its a sign that its failing.

Could be capacitors. Apparently it's decently common for PSU capacitors to make high pitched noises

Is it dangerous to my components?

RMA ALL THE PSU'S!

Like, now...

In my first build, I had a bad PSU destroy my Motherboard (and possibly my CPU, I'll never know...)

If weird noises occur (such as that), save your system... Assume the worst.

Also, if you can't RMA (out of warranty or whatever) get a new one... PSU's aren't super expensive.
