How long do PSU's last?

Hi,

 

I'm currently running a Cooler Master Thunder 700W (not 80 plus rated), that i got 6 years ago. I'm looking at upgrading my GPU next month, should i upgrade my PSU to a newer one as well, or do you think my current one will be ok?

wattage is more than plenty. PSU's do not age that fast. But you did not have that good quality psu in the first place. If you upgrading the gpu i suggest you to get a new psu. get something from B+ in this list: 

 

 

 

What are the system specs? what gpu are you upgrading to?

Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7, i7 7700k, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM.

you probably good with that psu then. Your system will consume under 400w anyway. but if random crashes and shutdowns start to happen, buy an another psu

cant find any reviews of the unit. 

 

i do highly suggest swapping it. its 80+ bronze rated cousin wasnt rated favorably at all. and while quality isnt efficiency related, it would seem that its a pretty low end unit. likely a group regulated unit. 

 

i suggest swapping it. 

 

edit: especially since you are getting fairly modern hardware. and its not great if you ran it, and it would happen to have poor voltage regulation with lacking UVP.

make sure you actually get a good unit. follow the tierlist linked above with Tier B or Above. or ask the forum for advice.
