If it doesn't need to be anything too fancy, you can get an LSI 9211-8i on eBay

for a bit more than USD 100. It's a host bus adapter and not really a proper RAID

controller, but depending on your needs it might be sufficient.

 

Alternatively, the LSI 9240 can also be found on eBay for a similar price, though

I'm not too familiar with it and can't say for sure how good it actually is (maybe

@wpirobotbuilder knows more about it?).

 

What exactly do you need it to do? Do you really need a proper RAID controller,

or do you just need some additional SATA ports?

It's an okay RAID card. It has no onboard cache so performance will be slow unless you're doing large file copies.

heard good stuff about the ibm m1015 which is cheap but can be flashed to lsi 9240 because it uses the same controller
