First time upgrading to a gaming PC/Laptop

Doesn't need to be crossover, that was a thing 15 years ago but not anymore. Gigabit ports are all auto-mdix.

Maybe 9 years ago I think I remember linking 2 computers together using 2 USB cords. It seemed to have worked, as I was able to transfer files between the two. Would that still be possible?

It would be a special device for that, not just a cable. Has an active box in the middle.

You are correct.

Not only did you not tell us that you wanted an i9, you also didn't just do a quick search on newegg.

Here is the link I meant to post:

https://www.newegg.com/core-black-msi-gs-series-gs66-stealth-10sgs-031-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834155391?&quicklink=true

This one has the 10980HK. It goes for $3000

So, I'm not sure if this laptop will be available when I have all of the money collected for it. Is there a website where I might be able to have it built, then sent to me that's not Newegg?
