How do you mean shutting off..?

Is it instantly shutting down on boot..? Is there a triple beep with with flashing red LED...? Does it flash yellow green on boot then shut down..? Or does it just cut out with no red LED.

Just from this it sounds like YLOD (Yellow light of Death) which can be caused by a few things, most commonly if its an older "Phat" model > CECHA - CECHQ > is the NEC/TOKKIN caps on the CELL/BE and RSX.

Or it could be a power delivery issue which could point to the PSU......

What model PS3 do you have..? CECH.....?

The more details you give the more I can help as there can be many cause's of issues on PS3's and some of the issues are also dependant on model.

three beeps

Not necessarily bricked but most likely the CPU/GPU is getting too hot and/or it needs reflowing/resoldering.

The old solder over time develops stress cracks from the repeated heating and cooling cycles it goes through, since they used lead free solder (Silver Solder) to solder the chips onto the board it's more prone to these problems.

Since the TIM in and on these chips is probrably close to 15 years old now (If it's the original TIM) it's bound to have overheating problems and run too hot, causing this exact issue.

Solution would be to first, do a re-TIM of the unit and see how it acts. If that doesn't fix it you'll have to get the chips reworked, normally means to delid the chips (CPU and RTX chips) and apply new TIM underneath and to redo the soldering of the chips.
Once that's done it should be OK.

I've had to fix a few and that's what it was everytime with the symptoms you describe, being quite common in fact.

If you can get it worked on that would save the unit and let you play it for as long as you'd like from now on.
