I am using a samsung 840 evo ssd from like 2014 and I am currently having issues with my pc and think the ssd is dying. I just recently upgraded my pc with a new x570 motherboard, 3900x and 3200mhz ram, but I am using the same SSD as my boot drive.

So the problem is that it is taking AGES for starting up windows and it is taking a lot of effort to even get it to boot. My screen is constantly black-screening when I finally get it to boot. The issue I have when trying to boot is that it just black screens with the blinking cursor at the top left, I googled the problem and that is a storage-related problem. Another problem is that my monitor is constantly saying "no signal detected" and to fix this I am constantly turning off/on the power and also changing which connector my monitor is plugged in on my gpu.

What are the solutions to fix my problems? Would it be a fresh install of windows 10? Would it be getting a new ssd? I read that ssd's have a certain lifespan and maybe my ssd is too old now and is about to fully die? If so, are the m.2 ssd's a lot better, because the 840 evo im using is a normal 2.5 inch sata. What is the optimal ssd nowadays? the 970 evo m.2 is highly rated

Did you reinstall when rebuilding the computer? It's typically not great to carry over the drive as is, especially if switching intel/AMD.

Reinstalling windows could work so why not try?

Will you lose files on SSD? Depends if your system file exists only in your SSD then i dont think important personal files would be lost. IF not ,Id recommend seperating your personal files from windows system files, you can save them in your HDD or create partitions on the same SSD. After doing that , reinstall windows on the SSD or the partition that contains your system files.

i have put important stuff on my usb drive just incase. how do i reinstall windows on my ssd? i have the product key incase that is needed. i also have windows saved to my microsoft account, under "Activation" it says windows is activated to a digital license linked to your microsoft account. i've never reinstalled windows so what are all the steps to do this?

Good. Simply get a USB and download media creation tool, 1.png.fb8d30cede5ee3200f6e77ea6cd15a00.png

Then wait for it until the USB becomes bootable. Restart your computer, Go into your BIOS and boot your USB. Then go through normal windows installation process. Make sure windows is installed on your SSD(delete all the partitions and format it). Disconnect your HDD to prevent confusion.

I think i just wanna upgrade to a 970 evo, the speeds look way faster on this. What would be the steps to make everything work good on the new ssd? I assume I'd just unplug my 840 evo aswell as my HDD, plug in the 970 evo, boot up pc and it'll ask to install windows 10?

Same thing just go through the same process. Make a usb bootable using media creation tool, boot the USB from BIOS and go through the windows installation

ok im not sure how m.2 even works or what it is, is the m.2 970 evo plus compatible with https://pcpartpicker.com/product/QVn8TW/asrock-x570-steel-legend-wifi-ax-atx-am4-motherboard-x570-steel-legend-wifi-ax

I assume it is because it says m.2 slots = 3, but just want to make sure before i buy it

To understand whats M.2 watch this

Summary, An M.2 is just another way to connect your SSD to the MOBO and it is more efficient and faster than SATA and using SATA cables since SATA doesnt give you all the performance and speed from the SSD, So a bottleneck.

ASRock x570 MOBO got 2 M-key slots for M.2 SSD and 1 E-Key M.2 for Wifi module. So, the ASRock x570 got two slots for SSD's so the 970 evo plus is indeed compatible with it.
