black screen with blinking underscore

so ive just built my first computer and it turns on and all fans run, but when it boots i just get a black screen and a blinking dash. pressing crtl + alt + del does nothing neither does any of the F keys or any key on my keyboard infact.
if i try to boot it without the bootable usb i just get the message "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" but when i put the usb back in im back at the blinking dash.
unpluging the ssd didnt do anything and i cant flash the bios because i cant get into it. the usb has windows 10  64 bit and formatted in exFAT, nothing online has helped or worked.

well i am using bootcamp on mac to install windows onto the usb but i've also dragged the files right into the usb and they have the same result.

Sounds like there is no OS installed. Have you installed Windows already on your SSD?

no its a brand new ssd, thats the point of the usb right

Dragging the files will never work as it needs a boot loader installed. Try creating the media with a program called Balena Etcher, it's available for Mac, Linux, and Windows. If it still has the problem, where did you get the Windows ISO from? I've never used bootcamp to create media so I have no idea how that works.

i got it from https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10ISO

What was your solution to this? Because I’m having the same issue in almost an identical circumstance.

this means the boot order is not right or the primary drive is not plugged into the right sata port. usually you go into the bios and select "uefi boot manager" as the primary drive to boot first. if you cant get into the bios find out which of the sata ports on your motherboard is port 0 or 1 whichever is first and plug your primary drive into that sata port. if you cant find any numbers on the motherboard just plug your primary drive into different sata ports untill it gets the right one.
