Hey guys I'm having as issue getting my ram to run at 2933. My specs are:

Mobo: asrock b450 pro4-f

Cpu: ryzen 5 2600 non-x

Gpu: rx570 4gb (can't wait to upgrade)

ram: viper patriot blackout 3000

I've tried raising the ram to 2933 in the bios using the xmp profile and 1.350v but I get blue screened every time. As far as I can tell mobo and cpu should be able to handle the bump in speed, am I missing something or need to do something differently? Thank you for the help! I'll update with any answers to questions or if I figure it out.

dont use xmp, as that will most likely get stability problems, like you are getting. manually do it. set the frequency and toy around with voltage if needed, and it should work

Are you in the right MOBO slots - The second and fourth away, in that order, for DIMMs if you only have 2.

EDIT - 1st and 3rd DIMM slot only go to 2666mhz with the motherboards memory controller.  I have not gotten past 2666mhz on this board with those spots populated with 4 DIMMS and I have OCd a lot on this board.

Hey everyone I have an update. I believe my cpu was what was holding be back. I got a new cooler and now have my ryzen 5 2600 running at 4.1Ghz and the memory running at 2667Mhz. I'm going to continue to tinker with it and see if I can get it to 2933Mhz. Thanks for all the help!

Also I figured out my memory is dual rank.

  • 2 weeks later...

Posting for anyone who might come across this. I wasn't able to get my memory to run any higher than 2667 and even then sometimes I would run into instability. I've since upgraded quite a bit.

New MOBO: MSI x571-A Pro

CPU: R5 2600 (same)

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070

RAM: 2x8 3600 Corsair vengeance LPX

I also picked up a Corsair RM850x

Basically built a complete new pc lol, Everything is now running how I want it with cpu at 4.0Ghz and memory at 2933. Not sure if the mobo upgrade to a better chipset or the ram upgrade helped but I can definitely say I'm happy with the result.
