Laptops: Now or wait?

You mean the Zephyrus? Meh - still kinda bulky for my liking. Blade is about as thick as I'd like. Plus the keyboard looks jank.

But what's your opinion? Do you think it's worth waiting for this gen of CPU's? Or will current offerings from Intel still stand the test of time?

It's more than worth waiing. Look at Notebook checks articles and previews. The 15-25W 4800U is on the heels of the 100W i9 9980HK. Zen 2 is awesome in mobile. Not to mention Vega iGPUs are as powerful as a 1030 seems like

I'm in need of a new laptop. My SP3 is no longer coping well with today's usage. Though 5.5 years isn't bad!

I'm toying with the idea of buying a Blade Stealth 13. But with these new AMD 4000 series emerging, they seem to be a leap ahead of Intel's current offerings.

The question is, when do you think these CPUs will start to make their way into premium thin and lights? I can wait, but I'm getting impatient...

These are my minimum specs:

i7 (or better)

512GB NVMe

16GB RAM

Touchscreen (preferably OLED)

Thunderbolt 3 for eGPU (Will the AMD's even have this? If not, I'll need a stonker of an iGPU)

Thin/light

Thanks

There is already a laptop with a 4000 series and it isnt even crazy big or bulky. In a few months we should be seeing more and more models come out.

Thanks, that's helpful. I can only hope adoption is good and there will be something that meets my needs sooner rather than later. I'm getting desperate! Doubt I'll get Thunderbolt 3 support in these laptops though?

TB3 is no longer ties to Intel. It's down to the laptop OEM. eGPU is VERY janky though. Even laptops designed for it have lots of issues.
