Ram upgrade questions

Go to solution Solved by Grabhanem,

+4gb of RAM will help a lot-- it's a little weird to run mixed capacities but in theory it works fine, and there should be no performance issues. I've seen major prebuilts do it so it can't be too bad. Honestly though ddr3 is so cheap on ebay etc. that it might be worth just going for 2x4gb-- I've seen 2x4gb used kits under $10. Just make sure you get win10 64bit as 32bit can't properly use more than 2gb.

The main impact on boot/loading time is having an SSD over a mechanical hard drive. Having more RAM helps though, especially with system responsiveness and especially when you have that little to begin with.

Most GPUs worth using are going to be bottlenecked by the CPU pretty quickly, especially in lighter esports-type games. I'd recommend looking for an old i5 or maybe xeon e3 to upgrade at the same time-- xeons are often cheaper per performance but may have compatibility issues on some boards.

I recently found an old pc which I am planning on to upgrade. The first thing i want to upgrade for sure is the ram, and here are some of my questions.

also these are my specs

motherboard:asrock b85m pro4 (not sure, but it probably is, as all i know is it has an lg1150 socket, 4 ram slots, and its made by asrock)

cpu: pentium g3220 3.0ghz 2cores 2threads

ram: 2gb ddr3 1333 made by a random company im not sure about.

OS: windows 10 32bit

So my questions are:

Is it okay if I mix ram companies, and will it also be okay if I add a 4gb ram stick instead of a 2gb ram stick? (so its 4+2) Also they will be still ddr3 and 1333mhz.

Will I still get the benefit of dual channel?

Will the +4 gb ram help a lot in terms of web browsing, and playing games? (CS:GO, Minecraft & other e-sport titles) and how much will it help in FPS or percentage?

Also will adding more ram speed up windows boot time and maybe other games? I'm asking this cause whilst checking a comparision the higher ram systems booted up faster, and im not sure if this is true.

   And off-topic question:

What gpu should I get? (Also I don't know if this matters much, but on the motherboard it's PCI-express 3.0)

(I only want to play cs:go, rocket league and light games so I don't need anything very powerful)

I just checked, and that board lists support for (I think) all of the e3-12xx v3 CPUs. Of those, 122x will perform comparably to 4th gen i5s, while 123x and up will perform more like i7s.

Within those two categories there's not too much difference between the different chips-- between the top and bottom of the i7 equivalents is maybe a 10% difference.

Any of those CPUs should be able to handle a low-midrange GPU pretty well, up to about the 1050ti-1060 level of performance most likely-- exactly what GPU would be the best deal depends mostly on your case compatibility and power supply.
