SX-636, 70's retro case

saarwii

So this my first build for since forever and my first custom case ever! I've been planing and planing for months now and this morning i put in my first order for the parts that is going in to this case.

I've been looking for a case that would fit in to my living room but didnt find anything that really grabbed my attention. But about 2 months ago i walked in to a thrift shop and saw an old 70's stereo sitting on the shelf. no power or sound in it but hey! this could work as a computer case. So i payed the man his 30 bucks and i was of to the land of custom case bulding!

So this is the case, it's an pioneer SX-636.

this is how it look in my living room

gallery_48929_992_355115.jpg

So....it's small... only 16 cm heigh and 12 cm inside the case about 45 width and 33 depth.

i will fill this case with the following components

UPDATE ON COMPONENTS!
Motherboard: ASRock Z87E-ITX
CPU: i5 4670k
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 SC ACX HDMI DisplayPort Dual-DVI 2GB
Riser card: Deltaco Raiser-54
RAM: 2x4 Corsair vengeance LP
SSD: Samsung EVO 840 240GB
HDD: Seagate SSHD ST1000LM014 64MB 1TB 2'5
PSU: Be quiet! 530w cm

Cooling:
1x Corsair h75

2x Aerocool DS 120mm.

1x Noctua NF-B9 PWM 92mm
2x Fractal Design Silent Series R2 50mm

MODS!

Volt mod 50mm fans to run slower and quieter

Connect case indicators to show readings from components.

LEDs to back light the frontpanel

New case backplate.

So i've scraped the Kraken g10 mod for now! to much work at the moment with everything else that have to been done! in short i have to do mods on the GPU to fit the g10. I have to install a fan controller and thermal sensors to be able to auto control the fans or install a manual fan controller on one of the front ones!

So now i have two 50mm fans + a better psu to get rid of the hot air. and one 120mm aerocool ds and a noctura 92mm to get fresh air in. Also a H75 with an aerocool fan for better cooling and lower noice on the CPU.

But as you can see on the layout i will be able to put in like a h55 or someting in the case i i would want to go with the kraken in the future!

So new layout!

In the future if steam os takes off i will have one ssd with windows and one with steam and i will convert two of the buttons on the front panel to chose which hard drive to boot from on start up

So while im waiting for parts! here is my badly photographed case tear down

So i changed the order for to:

2x Antec H2O 620 V4 (Since i would have to change out the stock fan regardles if i got the antec or the Corsair h55, i went for the cheaper 620 and two great fans).

2x Aerocool DS 120mm.

the motherboard should arrive tomorrow

The rest of the stuff friday or monday. So it's probably going to be on the down low on updates over the week end

got the first parts jester day! still waiting for the cooling, psu and mobo but i've started to do some planing on the GPU

sweet smell of GPU

gallery_48929_992_57949.jpg

time to try and take it apart

gallery_48929_992_39284.jpg

It came of easy, one screw under the card and the DVI port scews and it was off

gallery_48929_992_240585.jpg

The plan was to mount the card directly to the case backplate! but it seems like it's alittle bit over my head so im going for a custom plate insted

Sweet, I love the look of old sound systems, rocking a few in my room currently.

Maybe you could try to make the switch on the unit turn on the PC.

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum

If it were me I would black out the GTX 770 like how EVGA did their new GTX 750ti. That card is absolutely sexy.

rawr!! I'm a ferret!

So Everything is here (almost, i might need 2 more fans). Tomorrow or the day after i will start the building process
gallery_48929_992_409906.jpg

Everything (sorry about the focus)

-First up is creating a new backplate, with cut out for mobo, gpu and psu and the 50mm fans I will also need to paint the I/O shield (i have read som horror storys of people trying to create their own shields so i wont go in to that this build)

-Second is to create a new mounting plate for the GPU and paint it

-Third it's is on to mount the components to the botomplate and cut out air intakes on the bottom.

-Then i will have to create 2 fan controls, one for the intakes in the front and one for the H75 fans.

- alter the current power button to a momentary button.

- attach LED for the back lighting of the front panel

- Add two temperature meters, one for the GPU and one for the CPU that you can read from the analog indicators on the front!

OLD LAYOUT

gallery_48929_992_410313.jpg

Original Layout of the case.....minus the mobo(i fits i just didnt wanna mess with at this point) The GPU( going to be horizontal in the middle with a riser card) and the SSD/HDD, (They are going under the GPU)

NEW LAYOUT

I think im going to go with this one! going to look better, and be a more quiet set up.

Holy sh*t mate, awesome, can't wait for an update.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.
