PS4 & XBOX ONE: HDMI 1.4, 2.0, or 2.1?

So I have a Base PS4 and a base XBOX ONE I have a hi-definition 1080P smart TV and I’m wondering if upgrading the HDMI cable to a 2.0 or 2.1 will give me better speeds on either system?

is it worth the upgrade or future proofing?

thank you in advance

Both the PS4 and Xbox have HDMI 1.4, so getting a 2.0 or 2.1 cable will not change anything. If I remember correctly the main difference between HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 is that 1.4 can only do 4K at 24 fps, while 2.0 can do 4k at 60 fps. I'm not sure what you mean by "better speeds", but since your tv is only 1080p and your consoles have HDMI 1.4, there would be no benefit to getting better cables.

Both consoles tap out at 1920x1080 at 60Hz, so even if the consoles support HDMI 2.0, it'd be wholly irrelevant as they won't output anything higher than that without what'd probably be software modifications.

Short answer, no.

By higher speeds I mean higher refresh rates

like can I get higher than the 1080P 60hz by upgrading to 2.0 & 2.1

Most TV's are 60hz and both the xbox and ps4 are also maxed out at 60hz, so there would be no benefit. If the source and destination do not support more than 60hz, then upgrading the interface in between them is pointless.

No. There is no need to “future proof” by getting a 2.1 cable. Your base consoles do not support 2.1 so you wouldn’t seen any benefit, you wouldn’t seen any “speed increases”, besides most games are limited to 60fps or less, sometimes a lot less.

You would also need a compatible display that supports the features that  2.1 would provide.

No, maximum HDMI that PS4 and XBO support is 2.0, no point in buying a 2.1 cable
