CPU not being utilized

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

It might just be Interweb lag causing the Frame drops. My left leg can run 50 fps on fortnite.

Need more information.

Are you watching the HD/SSD usage? any spikes on read writes?

What about the GPU? Are the clocks staying constant?

I just upgraded my processor to a ryzen 5 3600 and OC it to 4.1 GHz. I was playing Fortnite with multi threading on and I noticed that some threads where not being utilized as much as others. How would I get it to utilize all the threads. I have a rtx 2080 super for a graphics card.

You cannot get it to utilize all the threads. Your Cpu is overkill for that game.

The reason is because the game is written to utilize X amount of threads. Typically a couple few cores for the game engine and maybe one more dedicated to physics depending on the game and hardware ect ect.

Hope this helps answer your question?

I agree. It is not necessarily a bad thing that some threads are more intensively used than other ones, it does depend on the computational work done by the individual threads. Also, without knowing Fortnite too well, games not necessarily need so many threads to run.

I looked it up. A dual core is capable of running FortNight.

The problem is that I want a constant 144fps and it keeps dropping down to low FPS and coming back up

That is low indeed. However I strongly doubt that these drops are due to the number of threats being used or how evenly computations are distributed across them. As @ShrimpBrime Pointed out the requirements for running Fortnite are not terribly high.

Have you tried running the game at stock speeds (both CPU and GPU)?

Yes, I still experience FPS drops
