Help! I didn't update bios before I put in new CPU and old CPU doesn't work now.

I got a new Ryzen 5 3600x to replace my Ryzen 3. I am sleep deprived and did not update the bios before I uograded. Now the old CPU will not work. My motherboard is a tuf gaming b450m mini ATX. I am very upset. I don't know how to fix this. When I put the old CPU back in the motherboard has power but the GPU and CPU don't. When I took the old CPU out it was stuck to the cooler and I may have damaged it. It has all the pins but one tiny section is dark.

Can we have some high res pics of the possible cpu damage and a shot of the cpu socket too? 

Interested to see the dark section.

If you've actually damaged your old CPU then there isn't much you can do. The motherboard doesn't have BIOS flashback, so you'll have to either buy a new motherboard that comes third gen compatible out of the box, or get a used second gen CPU so you can update the BIOS on the motherboard you have. I also agree that pictures would help diagnose the situation, but if the CPU worked before and doesn't now, you may very well have broken it.

Not dumb. Been an issue with Amd since socket 754. You are not alone believe me. 

Generally no real damage occurs from pulling the cpu out.

 

Let us examine the pics. Im at work on my phone so ita hard to see even zoomed in. My 40" monitor will help me though. 

Lets see what these guys think.

In the case that you did not update your BIOS before installing a new processor which couldn't be detected by your  motherboard, you should be able to do what @5x5 has stated, reset the CMOS and update your BIOS using the old CPU. It is very easy to damage the CPU if you don't install it carefully on the motherboard. Try removing the CMOS battery and then booting with the old processor. If that does not work, then the old CPU is likely damaged and I would recommend getting the cheapest possible used processor that will work with this motherboard socket and updating the BIOS before swapping to the new processor.

Do a couple without the flash if you can in natural sun light. Theres a lot of glare. Take a shot from one side so we can look for slightly bent pins that may not make good contact in the socket.

In case that you did end up damaging the old processor, try another AM4 CPU that you may have, or purchase one to use temporarily in order to get the BIOS updated before swapping out with your new processor. I would highly recommend watching an installation tutorial before starting to install another CPU of this socket type.

I've installed a few Ryzen CPUs before in new systems. It was the old CPU stuck to the heatsink, that damaged it. I did try a Ryzen 7 CPU of same gen, it didn't work.

 

I tried the old alcohol trick provided by Crossfire and now the heatsink and GPU have power but not booting.

Yes. Computer has power. Heatsink has power. GPU has power but not booting.

I installed an ssd. Samsung Evo plus m.2 nvme. That wouldn't keep it from booting would it?

Not likely that the SSD would cause any problems with the computer being able to load with a video signal, although to eliminate all possible points of trouble, try to use only the following components in attempting to boot (until the computer can startup with a video signal):

 

1. Power Supply

2. Motherboard (no CMOS battery)

3. Case

4. RAM 

5. Cooling devices/systems (fans, heatsinks, water pumps, water reservoirs, water loops, etc)

6. Processor (CPU)

 

* Connect directly to your motherboard's video output slot and avoid connecting through your GPU if possible.

 

After that is done, reseat your memory (Remove all RAM modules and reinstall), and ensure that all your computer's components are fitted with proper contact (especially your display cable). Use compressed air and/or an anti-static brush to get out the fine particles of dust attached to your computer's circuits.

Found the issue. ONE pin was bent. Straightened it and it fixed the issue. New issue is that when my computer boots it tries to boot from ssd and my hd isn't in the boot from list. Thank you all so much for your help! I love this community!

Looking at the manual for your motherboard, it would appear that the M.2 connector shares bandwidth with and therefore disables SATA ports 5 and 6. Is it possible your HDD is connected to one of those ports?
