Companion Cube, my NAS.

AllstaRawR

First off:

I'll add pictures as it's built. All the parts are ordered, but some are still in transit. :P Also, I'm going to paint the case to make it look like Companion Cube! I think my username will be GladOS this time for the OS...

Parts:

Case: Obsidian 250D

This is the whole reason I'm building this. Saw this case and immediately thought, LANBOX/NAS.

CPU: Intel i5-4670K

I kind of liked the prospect of also using this for LANs.

Cooling: H100i
Because these look beautiful in the 250D...

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 1600MHz 8GB
Had some laying around.

MB: ASUS Z87I-Deluxe
Black and Gold. C'mon. It's just beautiful. Who needs that Impact sound card, anyways?

PSU: Corsair RM650
As soon as I get sleeved cables...

Storage: WD Red 3TB
Two of them. Low power and absurdly fast for 5400RPM (These actually just benched three times faster than my previous 2TB 7200RPM storage drive).

Boot Drive: Samsung 840 Evo
Two of these too. RAID0 with backups onto the storage drives. Best Buy made a price mistake and I got them both for under $200 shipped. :P

Fans: NF-F12 (x2), NF-A15
BECAUSE THEY'LL ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO HIDE IN THIS CASE. FINALLY THE UGLY CAN BE HIDDEN. I love Noctua fans, but they are God awfully ugly.

Updates:

I'll add pictures as I get things.

nice nas!

maybe using some of the ssd as cache would help but I'm not sure if this is possible when they're in raid 0

noctua fans hurt my eyes but I still managed to purchase them in case I put them in a build out of sight, still in mind though... IT HURTS MY OCD!!!

Why do you even need a 750W PSU, that thing will use like 200W max.

Well then... fixed it? Also, I think it might actually look better as a grass block from minecraft? It'll be vinyl-ed either way, suggestions welcome...

EDIT:

@paulsterio: 191W before OC according to PCPartPicker; so that when I put a GTX880 (whenever Maxwell comes out...) in it for LANS it will still be really quiet. :P
