Hi all,

I am planning to upgrade my build over the next months, because I don't have the budget to just buy everything at once, and I need an advice on what to get for my new build. If it is possible, I would also like to buy parts that can slot into my current build, before I have everything, so they don't sit there taking dust. Just in case, this is my current build:

CPU: Intel i5 4460 Quad Core CPU (3.20 GHz, 6 MB Cache, 84 W, Graphics, Turbo Boost Technology, Socket 1150)
RAM: HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - Black
HDD: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive
SSD: Kingston SSDNow A400 240GB SATA 3 Solid State Drive (SA400S37/240G)
GPU: Gigabyte AMD R9 380 G1 Gaming Graphics Card (4 GB, SOC, PCI-E)
Motherboard: Asus H97-PLUS Intel Motherboard (H97 Plus, ATX, SATA Express, Socket 1150)
Power supply: EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR - 500W 80 Plus Power Supply (100-W1-0500-KR)
Case: Cooler Master NSE-300-KKN1 N-Series N300 "USB 3.0, Mid Tower Case" Black

if something on here is worth taking over the new build, please highlight it. This pc will be purely used for gaming and almost nothing else.

I have a couple of things I would like from my new build:

  • If it is possible, I am going for a black / red configuration, with a splash white.
  • I would like a case with a lot of fans or a case where I can add fans. (would like a composition of 2-3 in the front, 1 in the back and possibly 1 on top, if it fits). Don't really mind how they look, plain black/white would be perfect
  • A modular Power supply, I really suck at cable management.
  • I would like Windows license included.
  • I don't care about RBG (don't have the budget for it)
  • I am not planning to overclock straight away, so if it fits in the price, I would like a cooler, but not a water one.
  • I have a 144hz 1440p monitor, I don't know if that is going to matter in any way of choosing some parts.

The budget is around 900-1000 pounds, of course everything will be bought over time, but I would like to stay 5% within it.

Thank you all in advance!

You will need to upgrade your CPU+Motherboard+RAM at the same time. Other than that everything can be bought seperately.

No use making a parts list now, since when you buy the parts the prices will possibly change, but I'd reccomend getting that CPU+MOBO+RAM upgrade first, then Power supply and GPU. (case upgrade whenever you want, storage upgrade if you want)

get a Ryzen 3600, B450 motherboard, and 16GB of 3200Mhz or 3600Mhz DDR4 RAM

Laptop:

Lenovo Yoga 7 Air: Ryzen 7840S, 32GiB DDR5

Desktop (Old but I never replaced it):

Delidded Core i7 4770K - GTX 1070 ROG Strix - 16GB DDR3 @2000Mhz

Is there a better case available? Wouldn't mind spending a few more bucks for it, having something more stylish, maybe with glass panel. The Power Supply looks good, but there is a chance for a fully modular for the same price?

that case has pretty good airflow, that's why I picked it.

a semi-modular psu only has fixed cables that you'll always use, so it's basically no differeent than a modular one.

As this is going to take me quite a long time to build, is there something coming out soon that I should be aware of?
