All,  I am currently receiving the parts to complete my first build.   The PSU in this build is a Corsair CX 550 Semi-modular.

I was thinking though, what about a UPS.  I live in the US where power is fairly consistent and brown-outs are not common.  However, it is still advisable to get a UPS and if so what type?   I have seen PFC Sine wave, avr, and other options for UPS systems and I am not sure what would be best.

The only thing I would be wanting the UPS to do is to provide enough power for a safe shutdown 5-10 minutes.

Your thoughts?

Every place I've worked has used APC both for desktops and in their server rooms.

Just find one with the right watt hours for your use case. So what ever you estimate your system draw to be times the amount of time you want to be up for.

So there is no need for AVR, PFC pure sinewave, etc...

Just get cheapest that gets the job done?   Reading on what AVR does, I would think that would definitely be something nice to have.   the Sinewave I am not sold on paying the extra money for.

I use this... https://www.amazon.com/APC-Battery-Protector-BackUPS-BX1500M/dp/B06VY6FXMM/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=apc+ups&qid=1584732942&sr=8-3

It gives me 30-40 mins  shut my PC down if the power goes out.  I can run my internet/wifi for about 60 to 90 mins with my PC shut off.. Not really sure i haven't unplugged to really confirm and my power rarely goes out.  It usually comes back on before the first time when it does.

I would definitely say at least get one with a replaceable battery.  You can easily swap that out yourself.

I like the idea of AVR to protect against under/over voltage.  I will have to wait for the funds to return before I can though.

Thanks for the link to an APC backup UPS
