27GL850 bad?

silajim

Hi,

I got yesterday this monitor and I've been running some tests and it seems like I got a dud regarding contrast especially on black luminance  I run the tests with an i1display Studio, and display calibrated at 6000K, the values are after calibration.

Did a really get a bad monitor? or not? The backlight bleed is quite noticable in a dimm room (not dark , but but not superbright) especially compared to my U2414H that it "replaces".

And tft central 845:1 at the same osd brightness, with a blackpoint of 0.10 while mine is at 0.14.  I don't trust rtings because they dont give enough information like, at which osd brightness level? What's the luminance? The black point? someone cannot cross check the data

They provide it under their calibration section.

Indeed.

Does anyone on the forum have the monitor?

This monitor having poor constrast is pretty much the norm.

Yeah, I will probably return it and get a Pixio PX7 prime

The P7 has better contrast but much worse black uniformity and backlight bleed. If you play in a dark room and care about good contrast you want a VA panel.

I think my issues come from blb, since my both U2414H have almost none.

I've attached an Image in a dark room.

I don't play or watch movies in a dark room, not overly bright also. But I can notice the lower left corner on dark scenes

Maybe I'm just oblivious to it, but I don't notice blb or ips glow in day to day usage on my gl850.

My brightness is set to 40.

So I got a second panel and this is how it looks, brightness is set at 90cd and the image is not overly overexposed, just a tad,

If you back up, that brightness in the corner will go away. If you still see it from 6 feet away, than yes you got some BLB.

In my observations, people complaining about BLB are the same people who stare at their monitors from 12-24 inches away. Of course you're going to see a little unevenness when you're that close, along with developing myopia.

I've had a couple Eizo's in my lifetime, I think your monitor looks fine (especially for the price and speed of it).

Thanks for the answer!!  Yes it goes away if I back up like 6 feet (~2 meters). I sit at about 28 inches (70cm) from the monitor.

The previus one had glow even almost dead center of the screen, running from bottom left to top right.
