Seagate HHD not showing up in storage settings, but device manager picks it up

My new hard drive came today, i made sure that I had correct wires, power, and drivers, but the drive does not show up in the bios, or in storage settings on windows 10. Drive does show up in device manager, but I have no way of actually using the drive if it doesn't show up. When you go to create a partition, is it just missing from the menu?

If it shows up in device manager, it likely doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it which is causing you to not be able to use it yet. In device manager, right click on it down in the lower section where it shows the partitions of each drive, and select assign drive letter. The words may not be the exact same as I am currently using my macbook, but that should get ya there

I don't really know how to create a partition in the first place so that might be the issue. Again I just built my first tower so I have no good idea of where to go. Any suggestions on how to do this, then proceed from there?

So to start the process of creating partitions on the drive or at least start to be able to use the drive, how would i create this initially?

I just initiated the "populate" part of the drive, will this allow the drive to be used?

Go to disk management (windows key > dskmgmt) If a pop up appears asking if you want to initialise disk, select yes and intialise it.

 

Afterward, select the drive in question > Right click > New simple volume

 

Assign drive letter and you are done.

when the drive setup asks about a "simple volume size in mb", what is that asking me to do and what size would you reccomend for a 2tb hhd?

It wants to know how big to make the partition, the default value (whatever is there initially) is the full capacity of the drive. Just leave that alone.
