USB drive not able to boot Windows

I recently built a system with a Ryzen 3900x. I had the retail version of windows 10, which comes with a USB drive and a key to install windows. However, this installed a version from 2015, which apparently has major compatibility issues with my Ryzen 9 3900x (crashes every 2 minutes) to the point where I could not update to a newer versions of Windows. I am now trying to install a newer install of windows fresh from a separate USB drive. On paper, this drive would seem to have no problems in booting windows, but in practice it always fails to find drivers in the installation process.I tried windows media installer and rufus but neither seemed to work.After failing to boot if off this drive, I popped in the retail version which started the installation process immediately, leading me to believe the problem is somewhere in the drive. The only possible issue that I can think of is that the drive is just cheap and incompatible for booting windows, (bought for $4), but I want to make sure I'm not missing any other issues before I go out and buy a different one.

Probably a faulty/fake USB drive that corrupts itself.
