How are the Audio Technica ATH AD700X heaphones?

I want something for general purposes - Watching movies, youtube, listening to music, gaming. Looking for something that is lightweight, open back, and has large ear cups with decent padding that doesn't squash the ears.

Planning on running them through my Steinberg UR12, no DAC/AMP so is that going to be an issue?

Has anyone used the AD700Xs before? Anyone have any experience with the headset band with the "wings" design where it's split? Are the headphones able to stay in place or will they slip off every time I move my head?

Currently using Plantronics Rig500E's and they're really light weight and I can wear them for a few hours at a time, but they're starting to annoy me with the cable coming off both ear cups and the stupid dongle in the middle of the cable that flops around and gets in the way. The built in mic on them is far too quiet and I've never used it so I don't need another headset. I'm planning on switching in the closed back cups for the Plantronics headset that way I can switch between closed back (Plantronics) and open back headphones (AD700Xs??) when needed (basically if I want to block outside noise).

Or if anyone has any other suggestions for lightweight open back headphones with analogue jack around the $100 USD mark?

Ad 700x imo are not tuned well for a general purpose it's can sound too Tinny to my ears or many like to describe airy. Do to a big treble emphasis it's great for games but not the best for general content consumption. I feel the HD 559, the Fidelio X2 hr, or a used HD 58x are better things to look into at this price point.

The HD559 looks alright, and is only $10 more than the ATH AD700X. The detachable cable is a bonus. The cable it comes with is 6.3mm which is fine if I'm running to my interface but if I want to run straight to my PC or my phone I guess I'd need to get a separate 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. It's just a standard 3.5mm jack on the headphones end, correct?

The Fidelio X2 HR and HD 58x are both double the price here in Australia, each around $295-$300 AUD. The HD58X also has a cable for each ear cup which I'm trying to avoid as I find my current headset with it often gets tangled up and in the way. Would much rather have it go to one side and run through the head band.

It's not a "standard" 3.5mm on the headphone end, the connector has a locking system, and the pins in the headphone for that system would stop a normal 3.5mm from being inserted.

Just buy a 6.35mm -> 3.5mm adapter, it will be alot cheaper than buying a full cable, especially if it's a sennheiser cable.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
