Increasing GPU VRAM with Ram

Hello,

 

Recently i was reading about Assigning RAM to your GPU VRAM and i was wondering if it brings any advantages or disadvantages and if this is even a possibility 

 

Also im a total noob regarding this stuff

By default when the GPU run out of ram it will use the OS drive space.

As for RAM, i am not really sure, i'll let this question to someone who know better.

By OS Drive Space you mean system RAM?

 

I don't think you can assign system RAM to help with your GPU unless it's an APU setup that does it on it's own.  Like a 2400g.

 

I don't know a way to allocate my system RAM to my 1080Ti if it went over 11GB, for example.

No, i mean the drive that have the OS on it.

Iirc it uses system memory first, but DDR4 is vastly slower than GDDR5/GDDR6 so it should really be avoided

VRAM overage goes to system RAM first, not the pagefile.  System RAM overage goes to pagefile.

I don't even think it's possible, so recommending or not is moot.
