Hello i have an old pc with the following parts :

cpu : i5-4690(yes without K)

gpu : sapphire r9 280 3gb

motherboard : gigabyte z97

8gb ram

650watt psu

I am looking for a good upgrade and i will upgrade the monitor to 1080p 144hz from 60hz.

But i am not sure which gpu should i get and i don’t want to waste my money for a gpu that my cpu can’t reach. Do you think a 1660 super will be ok? or is it overkill for this cpu and i should go to a RX 570 ? please help me

1660 should be pretty evenly matched in many titles, although in others 4 cores could become an issue. What games?

CrumpleBox V3:  Xeon X5680  -  Asus X58 Sabertooth  -  DDr3 16GB@1.33Ghz  -  Gigabyte 1660s -  TT smart RGB 700W  -

Cooler Master Storm Trooper  -  120GB Samsung 850 Pro   -  LTT Edition Chromax NH-D15 ?

If higher settings are your primary concern, then your current CPU should be fine

If you can afford the 1660 Super there's no point in going for an RX 570 instead. Even if you don't unlock the GPU's full potential now, you will eventually if/when you upgrade the rest of your parts later on down the line. And either way it'll be a massive improvement over your 280.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

If you want a cheap upgrade I’d op for a used 580 8gb or used 1660, will save you lots of money and give you the performance you want. Used rx588s go for 120 and u can get them usually for 80 ish
