I was hoping to put together a budget friendly build for my dad to do some light video editing work, he enjoys working on home videos.  Right now his hardware is  really slow and struggling.

This is what I have so far, I was wondering if that power supply is worth spending $100 on for this type of build.

Also the ryzen 3600 and Tomahawk will together be about $35 cheaper than show here due to Microcenter sale on Ryzen and a $20 bundle for motherboard.

I would just need to get a m.2 ssd which I wasnt sure if anyone had some recommendations on a 512gb one?

Also if I wanted to mini itx build, is there a motherboard that would be recommended?

Thanks ahead of time for your time,

The 3600 isn't an APU so you'd need to buy a gpu as well.

If they're only doing light editing work, something like this would do fine:

Even without NVMe it would be fine

Well, not that one (see below); as above already remarked youd either need a gpu as wel OR swap the cpu with a APU.

It depends what is "light" video editing? Short tracks?  Few effects? (A short track with few effects can stil be a workload if 4k and short is "40 minutes length" since its not a 2hr cinema reel :)

Cool Thank you,

Ya I wasn't aware the 3600 also needed a gpu to work.

He will mostly be doing old "cam-corder" videos that were uploaded to the computer, so I do not think 4k is in the question.  However I'd imagine he would put some effects into it.

The average file is about 60 minutes long that he would be cutting and mashing up would be my guess.

A Ryzen 5 3400g is a capable mid range APU if you're on a tight budget. I'd say, 4c/8t should be plenty for his needs and you wouldn't have to buy a GPU. My brother in law uses a previous generation Ryzen 3 2200g with half the threads for light 1080 video editing and has no issues.
