What is the longevity of a CPU? I currently have a intel 6700k and wanted to know the life span of cpu that does not go through overclocking?

Thanks

Like I still have a pc that runs from the early 2000's, and then I've bought chips that have lasted less than a year

Luck of the draw basically

So long as you keep it cool it can last decades.

Thanks for the response! I've been helping my friend build his pc and seeing the Ryzen 9 3600x is making me want to buy it but I feel like like I can still squeeze out a couple of more years out of my 6700k.

One was a 6500 which took a week to literally burn itself out

The other was a 4770 that just quit out after about 4 months.

Lol I just came to find a reason to upgrade to Ryzen 9.3600x but now I'm bummed out that my chip could fail at random.

Not to mention, a faulty chip likely would've croaked by now (assuming OP has had the i7 since launch-ish)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious
