Just bought a brand new corsair rm850 modular PSU of Amazon and when I put it into my system, I could hear a very quiet buzz coming from inside the PSU when I attempted to turn it on and the only thing that would happen is that the motherboard would light as usual but nothing else would happen, and when I pressed the power button there would be a small click from the psu and then nothing. No new lights, nothing. I suspect that the PSU is dead as prior to the upgrade there was nothing wrong with the system. Any other ideas on what's wrong before I return it?

Are you sure you've connected all the required power cables ? Try clearing the CMOS, there were reports that this sometimes helps, no idea why tho, maybe smth related to sleep states and such.

Not sure how clearing the cmos would help but it's worth a shot!

Might be a silly question, but have you plugged in CPU power source in top left corner of mobo?
I know I often forget about it despite building many systems :D
