There’s a tier list in the PSU section.  Some are some aren’t.  Goes for most of the PSU brands it seems, though there are a few that are basically never good.

What does modular actually do? and when would that be useful.

I would recommend ToughPower Grand series (including RGB series) or the newer version ToughPower GF Series for average user. The ToughPower iRGB PLUS series is ideal too.

 

That being said, the above series PSU minimum wattage available is 650W. If you are looking for lower than that, you have to look for ToughPower GX series.

 

If possible, avoid the Smart series if you have a high performance rig with powerful graphic card.

It just has modular cables, in terms of no cables pre-attached to the PSU, all cables you'd need are included so it just means you use what you want to. The benefit is you only use that cables you need/want. Semi-modular PSU's are great as well, the attached non-modular cabes are all ones that get used.

Modular means the cable can be detached from PSU, giving you more freedom to configure your PSU, as you can just plug in the cables that you only need for your system, making cable management more streamline. You can also connect customised coloured cable as long as it is compatible with your PSU.

Yeah im looking to get one but I dont know a lot and im looking to get a reliable one. Im currently running a 750 watt with a 2060 super, and ryzen 7 3700x but ive had it for a long time and it hasnt been doing well.

You might not need that high power to run your system. I think I can suggest you this:

It is 650W PSU, Has 4 PCI-E Power connectors (2 plugs x 2 cables). It has 12V RGB sync capabilities which can sync the fan colour to your motherboard. It only has 1 4+4 12V CPU cable, though.

Yes that is a terrible PSU, If you are on a budget this is the best option:

This is a good quality PSU and is well rated. Also 550W is more than enough, you system will never draw more than 350W MAX.

It is never good to cheap out on a power supply. It just isnt worth the risk of it damaging the system.

That, for example, is a terrible PSU.

 

Inefficient, cheap fan (sleeve bearing), double forward without DC to DC.  Not something anyone smart enough to ask what PSU they should use should use.

You need to 'quote' in order for people to see your replies, the PSU I recommended is both good quality and is relatively inexpensive.

It's mediocre, the Corsair CXm I recommended is still better, and cheaper.

@Nickolass What HW do you have that you need a 650w PSU? I bet, 450-550w should be plenty. If you need a 650w psu, you probably want to spend more on better PSU-s (Corsair TXm, RMx, Bitfenix Whisper M, etc.)

And it's very mediocre PSU when it comes to stuff that really matters, load regulation, ripple suppression (it's good), transient response, protections. Doesn't worth the money they're asking for it. No better than Corsair CXm in fact.

This. List your specs, OP, and where are you buying from. Chances are you don't need even 550W, not to mention 650W PSU, wattage doesn't have anything to do with PSU quality and instead of overpaying for wattage, get better performing 450\550W PSU instead.
