My Cooler Master Devastator 3 Keyboard Decided to die

I have a Cooler Master Devastator 3 Combo and my problem is with the keyboard only. I was using it today to type up an essay, and then suddenly I noticed one of the keys not working then another key stopped working and so on...

Eventually the whole keyboard became unresponsive. The only on right now is the red light and the num lock light.

I have tried pressing:

fn+F11 (it's built in lock/unlock keyboard key)

fn+Win (It's Win lock combo)

Win+F11 (Thought I might as well)

I've tried playing with the light controls and the light doesn't change either; it's just the default bright red.

All this happened in a span of minutes. I have no idea why it decided to commit sudoku on me, but I would appreciate it if someone could help me fix this.

Hook it up to another computer and see if it still does it, if it has the same issue on another PC then it's the keyboard.

For a cheaper keyboard like that no, if it's a recent purchase you can try to return it or see if it has a warranty but for $30 it would be easier to just buy a new one. The issue you are having sound like it could either be some sort of short or liquid damage.

hmm, guess I'll get a replacement, Could it be because I plugged it in to a USB 3.0 port?

Cause I just noticed a battery simple next to my USB 3.0....

Not likely no. USB ports for the most part are all going to do the same thing even if they are a different generation like 3.0 or 3.1, 2.0 and so on the only differences are the speeds in which they can do things. Some USB ports have other functions like if you have one labeled bios it works as bios flash port so you don't have to load into the bios to flash a new update, some can transmit a display signal as well, if it has a lightning bolt or battery symbol it's probably one that can be used to charge devices faster, either way it should still function the same when a device like a keyboard or mouse is plugged in.

No, nothing to do with that.

Well that's weird cause It's literally been sitting in it's box for a while; I pulled it out only 3 days ago. So it's definitely not spillage...

I guess I might as well crack it open see for myself, it's off the warranty anyways.

Also, would you rather I get the same keyboard again, or is there some other budget keyboard that might be better than this (I would prefer mechanical but something like this keyboards is fine too)

It depends on your budget, I personally prefer Corsair keyboards. I've used them for years and have never had an issue with them, even with their budget models. HyperX and Steelseries have some decent keyboards as well. These are the three keyboards for less than or around $50 I would use.

so I figured it out.

The reason this is happening is because the retailer, somehow weakened the three little plastic pillars holding the control chip to the membrane before selling the board to me.

somehow the board managed to stay together but eventually gave way.

This is why i gradually lost connection. I was planning for a custom shroud anyways so this works nicely ;)
