I have a Lenovo z50 laptop with an i5 4210u and an Nvidia GT820m, clocked at 720MHz base. I have noticed that this card is GPU Boost 2.0 compatible, and it does boost to 955MHz when its below a thermal limit (seems to be 70C in my case). How do I alter this limit? I've seen gameplay videos on youtube on my card where its runnning at its boost of 955MHz even at 80-85C. My card stops boosting when it hits roughly 70C and at 720MHz, it settles down at around 70C.

So basically, is there any way I can alter the thermal limit or is that completely upto the manufacturer of the laptop?
I have tried MSi afterburner and the thermal and power limit sliders are locked. image.png.c712b51fe002660d73338f80fb66ab70.png

On laptops it's typically not possible to alter power- and thermal limits. Even with 3rd party software. If you're really desperate you could try and flash the VBIOS, but I highly recommend against this.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

yep, locked to laptop manufacturer. Or it could be thermal throttling due to thermal data not exposed to the user
